A Very Special Christmas

More than 20 years ago, I bought an audio cassette of Christmas songs titled "A Very Special Christmas". The artists were among the important pop/rock artists at that time. It was a big hit and their versions are still being played today. Consider these:

"Merry Christmas Baby" - Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" - The Pretenders
"Christmas in Hollis" - Run–D.M.C.
"Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" - U2
"Santa Baby" - Madonna

This compilation was the first in a series of Christmas albums that benefit the Special Olympics. It was novel but the novelty never wears off. I had the first two in the series in cassette format. The series is now in its ninth installment including an album from jazz artists (Jazz to the World) and a world music version (World Christmas) from artists around the world. The latest in the series (A Very Special Christmas 7) features fresh, young artists including our very own Charice singing 'The Christmas Song'.

Unfortunately, I lost the cassettes to typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana). I managed to skim low bit-rate but passable versions off the Internet but if I have the resources I would gladly acquire the albums again. I recommend them highly. If you like very special renditions of Christmas songs from good artists of various genres plus if you care to help the Special Olympics, go get these albums this Christmas.

They are good and moreover, they are for a good cause.
